Worldspan by Travelport provides worldwide electronic distribution of travel information, Internet products and connectivity, and e-commerce capabilities for travel agencies, travel service providers, and corporations. The company's three lines of business are travel supplier services, e-commerce, and travel distribution for the worldwide travel industry. It is world’s second biggest GDS (Global Distribution System). Go! Res is one of the premier most software in Travel Industry currently competing with Sabre and Amadeus.

TravelportSmartpoint is basically the redesign of Go! Res application with the new generation web technologies and with new look and feel.

TravelportSmartpoint is an application targeting Travel Agents and Airlines. It lets the travel agents/airlines communicate with the mainframe GDS over the web. There are two frames to it. In one of the frames, there is a component called TE (Terminal Emulator) which emulates a Mainframe terminal. The other frame consists of web UI which lets the user use power of ASP.Net to do the point and click instead of manually type to book a trip. Both frames are always in sync.

There is separate login process for travel agents and airlines and the authentication logic is also different. Once they get in, they share the same interface.

There are two sessions a user will have after login. One is normal ASP.Net session. The other session we call host session. Host Session is the session of the user having connection with the GDS (mainframe). Such a connection is termed as DA (Device Address). Web Farm is used to load balance the servers.  

 There are two other websites which work as support websites for Smart point. One is Smart Point Admin, basically involved in administration of the users on Smart point and Smart point Home Portal dealing with advertisements on Smart point taken care by smart point Maintenance team.
